HPS Member's Fair  "Not Just Your Average Plant Sale"

The HPS Members’ Fair, held this year on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at the 4-H Fairgrounds, Rte 77, Mullica Hill, NJ, will be so much more than just another Plant Sale. Beginning at 9:00 a.m., we will have food, and you can shop the non-plant vendors while the Plant "Exchange" is being set up. Some of the vendors this year will be Organic Mechanics with soil, compost, and mulch; Rebecca Boylan and Mary Tilger will offer their hypertufa creations; ceramic artist Barbara Hanselman and fellow artists with garden-related jewelry; and others. The park pavilions are covered, so this is a rain or shine event.

As you do spring garden cleanup, pot up those extra divisions to share with others who will be happy to give them a new home. Also welcome are annual and vegetable seedlings and HPS/MAG Seed Exchange starts that have produced more than you can use—others will be eager for your extras. Plants are priced reasonably and the more members who participate, the better the selection.

If you are unable to come to the Fair but would like to donate Silent Auction items or plants for the sale, we will arrange for a pickup if you let Alicia know by May 9.

Plant donations may be dropped off for the Plant Exchange between 8:00–11:00 a.m. for pricing and display. Please pot up plants at least one week in advance and label plants with as much information as possible. No invasives, please. (If in doubt, see the invasives lists at http://www.invasive.org/eastern/midatlantic/ or www.dehort.org/pubs.)

From 9:00–11:00 a.m., we will have educational events and demonstrations in one arena. Many of the demonstrated items, including a rain barrel made on site, will be auctioned off later that morning. In addition, we also will have rain barrel-making kits available for under $8.00—all you need is the barrel to make your own efficient water-saving device at home!

This year, in addition to our ever popular Silent Auction, Ellen Wilkinson will conduct a Live Auction at 11:30 a.m. of some super-special plants before the Plant Exchange begins.

After the morning activities, plan to visit nearby Green Planet and Triple Oaks nurseries, with an HPS/MAG members’ discount for the day. Directions will be provided to attendees. The town of Mullica Hill also offers a chance to shop. Bring a lawn chair, a wheeled cart to transport your purchases, and join us for free food and drink, great plants and information, and some fun!

A free gift plant to any member who stops by the Membership Tent.  Directions

Any non-plant vendors are welcome to email info@hardyplant.org for more information.
