Paul Epsom – Lecture and Reception

"Winter Gardening"
Haverford College, Sharpless Auditorium.

370 Lancaster Avenue, Haverford, PA 19041
Free to the public

When he's not dispensing gardening advice on The Victory Garden, Paul Epsom can be found on the Pennsylvania set of Home and Backyard or running Greystone Gardens, a specialist garden center in Clarks Summit. For this Haverford lecture, sponsored jointly with Haverford College and the Henry Foundation for Botanical Research, Paul will show his creative energy as he tackles how to make the dormant garden just as pleasing in winter as in other months of the year. Paul has been sorting through pictures from his extensive travels filming
television segments to share his design choices with snow and ice in mind.
Living and operating a nursery in a cold zone 5, his talk will really
address those questions about cold climate gardens in our own Mid-Atlantic
region with a hands-on perspective. He’ll lead us through design and plant
selection images putting his own slant on berries, evergreens, silhouettes,
stone, stem color and bark. Of course, there will be some comments on
gardening in the media as well as some likes and dislikes that have left a
lasting impression over years of touring hundreds of landscapes, gardens,
and nurseries.

Paul is in his fifth season with The Victory Garden. The WGBH/PBS Emmy Award
winning program is nationally broadcast in all 50 states. He has also made
several appearances on the CBS Early Show. Locally, he has appeared on WNEP
s successful show Home and Backyard for well over 400 episodes now. Paul has
won Garden Globe awards for his TV work--the award is given by the Garden
Writers Association and the Gold Award for Best Talent on Air. Paul holds
the Royal Horticultural Society’s Level 2 Certificate of Horticulture and
lives in PA with his wife, two boys, and Irish terrier, and is the owner of
Greystone Gardens, a specialist garden center in Clarks Summit PA (www
GreystoneG.com).
