Visit HPS/MAG Grant Recipient : Philadelphia Orchard Project (POP)

POP at The Woodlands - Site Visit and Orchard Tour

Rain Date Oct 4, 2022

Join us for a private tour of five-time HPS Grant recipient Philadelphia Orchard Project (POP). POP is a non-profit that plants and supports community orchards in the city.  Since 2007 POP has partnered with a diverse range of community groups and currently supports a total of 67 orchard sites across the city.  These orchards or food forests include a wide range of fruit and nut trees, berry bushes and fruiting vines, and perennial flowers and herbs.

We will tour the POP headquarters and Learning Orchard at The Woodlands with POP Executive Director Phil Forsyth.  This is an opportunity to see the work HPS Grant funding has supported since 2017. POP has used these funds to purchase plants for the creation of shade and pollinator gardens at the Woodlands site. Everyone is invited to bring their lunch and to explore the grounds on their own after our visit.

After the POP Woodlands site visit/tour, you are also invited to independently visit the site of another HPS POP grant recipient site, the Depaul USA Orchard located at 7919 Forrest Ave.  The orchard plantings are in an open unfenced green space at the corner of Forrest Ave. and E. Phil Ellena St.  If you are interested in visiting the Depaul site later today after visiting the Woodlands site, let Phil Forsyth know at the start of the Woodlands tour so he can confirm your visit with the POP partners at Depaul USA.

Members and nonmembers are welcome. Cost is $5 for members, $10 for nonmembers. Registration required. Registration fees will be donated to the Philadelphia Orchard Project. Maximum number of attendees is 15. Click here to register. Registration closes midnight September 25th. Rain date Oct 4, 2022. There will be a waitlist for this event if it is full. Please contact Dawn to be added to the waitlist.
