Another Year at Brandywine Cottage:
Tours of David Culp’s Garden through the Six Seasons

Season – Winter (December/January)

Rain Date: January 9th

Winter is all about bringing light to darkness. January is a time for dreaming of things to come, of planning for the future. The garden in winter is about the effect of light on nature. Oil lanterns adorn the porch and picnic table, fires in the hearth and candles everywhere, both indoors and out. Bonfires are a winter bonus. The mahonias have budded up and the Leucothoe axillaris is in its winter color, a beautiful deep burgundy beside the golden yellow Cephalotaxus harringtonia. There are winter crocus and Galanthus also blooming, with bright berries of the Ilex verticillata.
