Tour of the Woodlands property, followed by a BYO lunch.

The Woodlands property was bought by Andrew Hamilton and developed by his grandson William, who built the mansion and planned and planted the gardens. William introduced many new species, not native to the U.S. Some we’re happy to have, others, such as  Ailanthus, we’re not. In the  mid nineteenth century the property was developed into a typical Victorian cemetery which became the burial place of many prominent Philadelphians, including Thomas Eakins. The property, including the mansion fell into disrepair in the twentieth century and restoration has been underway in recent years. We will visit both the mansion and grounds with an emphasis on the community effort to restore and replant the cradle graves which was featured in a recent issue of Grow. We will stay for lunch. Please bring your own lunch. There is parking.

The cost is $10.00 for adults, $8.00 for seniors. Members and Non Members welcome. Limited to 20 participants.

Deadline is May 17 to register.  Click here to sign up.
