Have you ever gone on a private garden tour and thought to yourself: “I would love to just sit myself down in this garden and stay a while?” Linda’s garden is just such a place. Come and im merse yourself in the beauty and artistry that abound throughout this subur ban property.
The 1910 house sits atop a small hill and its diminutiv e garden (5,000 sq. ft.) has been 23 years in the making. The front yard f eatures a large Japanese maple tree shading a rock garden on the steep bank . The north side of the house includes a path lined with a collection of hy drangeas and hollies. Tree peonies and oak leaf hydrangeas thrive on south side of the house.
In the secluded backyard, a pond creates a serene oasis surrounded by mature evergreens, trees, shrubs, perennials and climbi ng roses. Numerous clematis vines wind through the roses and other support s. The deck and bluestone patio form garden rooms with seating areas and co ntainers filled with annuals, tropical and succulents.
The last bit of grass was removed when the curb strip became a bed of pe bbles where self-sowing plants are encouraged - including seeds from the ne ighbor’s sixty-year-old Dawn Redwood.
A note to PA Hortic ultural Society members: Linda’s garden was featured in an ar ticle in your recent Spring 2022 issue of GROW Magazine.
