“A Personal Guide to Bulbs through the Seasons”
Speaker: Jenny Rose Carey

A Free Hybrid Event – In-Person at Scott Arboretum & Gardens, or Virtually

Please join us for our annual lecture sponsored by a partnership of the Scott Arboretum & Gardens and the Hardy Plant Society/Mid-Atlantic Group.

In this lecture Jenny Rose Carey will explore some of her favorite bulbs for each time of year. She will share tips for growing bulbs successfully in gardens and containers and show mixed combinations in her Northview garden and from her garden travels.

Jenny Rose uses her own photos for the lecture and to illustrate her new Timber Press book – The Essential Guide to Bulbs, published October 2025.

Take home plenty of ideas for adding (more) bulbs to your own garden.

Jenny Rose Carey is an avid hands-on gardener and professional horticulturist. Born in England to a family of botanists and gardeners, she grew up in the countryside and designed her first herb garden at age sixteen. She moved with her American husband to the Philadelphia area and has gardened there ever since. Her degrees are in Biology, Horticulture, and Education, so Jenny Rose brings a strong teaching background to her writing and her presentations.

Professionally, Jenny has been Director of two public gardens: The Ambler Arboretum of Temple University and the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s Garden at Meadowbrook Farm. She is now devoting her time to writing, speaking, and tending her four-and-a-half-acre garden called Northview.

Jenny has authored three gardening books: Glorious Shade; The Ultimate Flower Gardener's Guide; and The Essential Guide to Bulbs: Grow a Bounty of Beautiful Bulbs in Gardens and Containers. The Essential Guide to Bulbs will be available to the public in mid-October 2025 and will be available for purchase at the lecture.
