Making a Meadow Home Garden 101A walking, interactive workshop for those just getting started or wanting to expand their knowledge in making a naturalistic, meadow-style home garden. As you amble about Goodly Gardens, a pleasantly attractive meadow-style garden, you will learn about key design principles, four season ornamental features and the roles of ornamental grasses and You will discover and learn to identify many of the top plants suited for meadow-style gardens in our area. These include cool and warm season ornamental grasses, wildflowers, etc., many of which are found in public gardens designed by Piet Oudoulf around the world. Goodly Gardens is a mature naturalistic meadow-style garden with 8 naturalistic garden beds and ~1500 sq ft of meadow for a total of ~3500 sq ft of cultivated landscape. Naturalistic meadow-style gardens are densely planted, focusing on structure, foliage, maturing features, and are accented with flower petals. Goodly Gardens is an awarded PHS Blue Ribbon home garden, as well as a Penn State Extension-certified pollinator- and watershed-friendly garden. The garden owner, Thom Mrazik, will lead this interactive workshop. Thom is a Penn State Extension Master Gardener Emeritus, and he completed the Barnes Arboretum horticulture program. He has published articles on meadow gardens, ornamental grasses and wildflowers in Fine Gardening (finegardening.com). Thom has also given generously of his time to HPS/MAG, presenting several virtual talks and hosting numerous pop-ups at his home garden.
