Rose Pruning & Care: A Hands-On Workshop at Wyck House

Come visit America's oldest surviving rose garden for a workshop on how to prune and care for Old Garden Roses (most of the once-blooming variety). Led by Wyck's horticulturist/rosarian, Jackson Warren, this event includes a brief overview of the garden and its unique roses, as well as a practical, hands-on demonstration of rose pruning (bring gloves!). Although the focus is on once-blooming, Old Garden Roses, there will be plenty of time for questions on repeat-blooming, modern varieties, as well as rose care in general. We hope you also sign up for Jackson’s rose lecture at the Free Library of Springfield Township on Monday March 2nd, 6:30-8:00 pm.

Wyck House, in the Germantown section of Philadelphia, was the ancestral home to nine generations of a family of Philadelphia Quakers, from 1690 to 1973. Today, Wyck is a National Historic Landmark house, garden, and farm. Wyck is perhaps best known to gardeners for its Rose Garden. This is the oldest rose garden in our area, dating back to the 1820’s.
