Native Plants Special Interest Group Event: A Visit to Octoraro Native Plant Nursery’s Propagation Site
When you see tree tubes in natural lands or reforestation projects, do you ever wonder where all those native trees come from? Join us in visiting the Tri-state area’s premier native tree and shrub propagation nursery – the Octararo Native Plant Nursery’s propagation site. Learn how seed stock is chosen and gathered, sown, and grown on into different sizes.
Our hosts will be owners/growers Kevin and Claire Zuidervliet. The tour will take approx. 2 hours.
To learn more about Octararo Native Plant Nursery, go to https://www.octoraro.com/.
Note: The address on the website is for Octoraro’s distribution site on Street Rd. in Kirkwood, PA. You may be familiar with this site if you have passed it when entering the driveway to Groff’s Plant Farm. We are not going to the Street Rd. site; we are going to Octoraro’s propagation site on Baker Rd. in Cochranville.
We will meet up at the Giant supermarket parking lot in West Grove to carpool to the farm 5 minutes away. Restrooms are available both at Giant and the farm.
Bring rain gear if warranted by the forecast; the trip will be cancelled only if conditions are dire. Wear comfortable shoes. Bring drinks and snacks if desired.
