A Tour of Culp Clearing at Bondsville Mill Park with David Culp

Our last visit to Bondsville Mill Park in 2021 began in the rain with a loud boom as a tree was struck by lightning. That visit highlighted the recently established Race Walk Garden to demonstrate that the use of native species in functional spaces can be sustainable, beautiful and beneficial to wildlife.

But before we began our tour in 2021, David Culp wanted us to picture and dream with him about the new one-acre garden he was designing. David’s design focused on reutilizing an industrial space. On this visit, we will see how that dream has come true. It is now a sustainable meadow filled with deep-rooted grasses and many different native plant species. The asters and grasses will be in their glory for our visit. Culp Clearing is an educational, water-wise garden.

David will lead us on an informal walk to learn how his design has totally revitalized a long abandoned industrial ruin to create a garden that demonstrates how native plants, critical for pollinators, can be a part of everyone’s garden.

Culp Clearing will be celebrating its first anniversary as we stroll the pathways. Learn more at:
