Native Plant SIG: Waterloo Mills Preserve and Chanticleer

With Margaret Moore, Native Plants Special Interest Group (SIG) Leader

Limit: 20 attendees. Members and non-members are welcome. Cost is $5.00 members and $10.00 non-members. Registration is closed.

Join us at Waterloo Mills Preserve with land manager Kevin Fryberger of Brandywine Conservancy at 10 AM, followed by visit and lunch at Chanticleer

Beavers, once hunted to near extinction for their fur, are making a comeback. We will walk around Waterloo Mills Preserve in Wayne, PA, learning about the resurgence of this amazing animal, and the impact its presence has on flora. The site manager will also discuss the restoration of the site, the invasive aliens encountered, and the other interesting flora and fauna. Waterloo Mills is normally open exclusively for Brandywine Conservancy members. Parking is limited, so attendance is limited to 20, carpooling encouraged, and registration required.

After our visit to Waterloo Mills, we will drive about 5 minutes to Chanticleer. While Chanticleer is not specifically a native plant garden, it showcases the interweaving of native plants among others to create an enchanting and inspiring tapestry. Please feel free to bring a picnic lunch and linger. Admission to Chanticleer costs $12. Since there is no group rate, you pay your own admission. Food and beverages are not sold on site, but there are numerous venues a short drive away.
