A Visit to Bob & Connie’s Garden
in Holicong, PA

Bob and Connie’s home occupies a property that was a former farm field with a mature woods line along one side. In 1980 Bob, an architect, designed and built a house for his growing family on a little over one acre. After moving in Bob and Connie agreed she would take care of the inside of the house and he the outside. Bob believed that a nice lawn and landscaping was what turned a house into a “home”, but he didn’t want just some “Kmart azaleas.”

The first year saw 30 plus ornamental evergreens begin the planting to provide year-round color. Pachysandra ground cover surrounded the mature trees. Five years ago, approximately 30 of the woods’ 100-foot ash trees were removed as a result of the Emerald Ash Borer infestation. Over the years new shade trees, dwarf, weeping and columnar varieties of evergreens, redbuds, kousa dogwoods, beech, sweetgum, and redwoods to name a few augmented the initial planting. Eleven years ago, Bob got hooked on Japanese maples and the garden now contains 60 varieties.

Ornamental grasses, hostas, daylilies, roses, spirea, hydrangeas, rhododendrons, azaleas, perennials, and annuals scattered throughout, complete the landscape and boost the inspiration from the interior views and daily walks in the garden.

This beautiful property was one of seven featured in the 2023 Bucks Beautiful Garden Tour. Now it’s our turn to experience it! Join us.
