So, You Want to Be a Propagator?
A Hands-On Propagation Workshop at Chuck Feld’s Birmingham Gardens
Are you curious about plant propagation and grafting? Would you like to try your hand at both? If so, this workshop is for you. It promises to be both rewarding and fun.
Chuck Feld, formerly a Teacher at the Williamson Trade School, will lead this workshop. He will teach you how to multiply plants by creating new ones from existing ones. This class covers how to propagate all types of plants, including germinating seeds, vegetative propagation, and grafting techniques. Lots of take-home skills will be yours at this hands-on learning experience.
But wait – there’s more! Chuck will lead us on a tour around his property, Birmingham Gardens, showing us some of the many plants he has grafted, experimented with, and is currently selling. The wooded lot comes with many specimens and some from the storied past when J. Franklin Styers owned this homestead. Chuck has many stories to share.
More about Chuck: His career included J. Franklin Styers Nurseries, where he was a nursery manager and landscape supervisor; running his own firm, Charles Feld Nursery Services, designing and building landscapes for homes; and then returning to Styers as general manager and later vice president.
Throughout his career, Chuck has maintained Birmingham Gardens, a 4-acre nursery on his property in Chester County, specializing in propagating woody plants for sale to wholesale nurseries, a business he will maintain in retirement. Read more at: Chuck Feld PHS Award 2017
