Rare Finds and Exceptional Specimens: Preserving America’s Finest Native Rhododendrons

Presented by Steve Wright, Director of Horticulture/Curator of Plant Collections, Jenkins Arboretum & Gardens

In this presentation, Steve will talk about Jenkins Arboretum’s exciting new curatorial initiative to develop a native rhododendron germplasm (genetics) repository. He will discuss what they are doing, how they are doing, why it is important, and how it will improve the Gardens for all to enjoy. In addition, Steve will talk about the progress of this project and share stories and pictures of some of the highlights so far. This is a program for all plant lovers who appreciate the unusual and extraordinary.

Steve Wright is the Director of Horticulture and Curator of Plant Collections at Jenkins Arboretum & Gardens in Devon, PA. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Education from Delaware Valley University and a Master’s degree from Louisiana State University with primary focus in forestry and secondary focus in entomology. In addition to managing Jenkins’ nationally accredited collection of rhododendrons and azaleas, Steve specializes in ecological gardening using native plants of the eastern US.

"Virtual Wednesday Nights" is a series of fun, educational and informative lectures for Members and Non-members. Some will be free and some will have a fee. Registration is required for each session.  

This is a free event. This event will be recorded and available to watch for just 2 weeks following the lecture.

Please make sure you have Zoom installed on your computer. Plan to join 5 minutes before; the talk will be followed by a 15 minute Q&A. Questions can be submitted via chat box and will be read to speaker by the HPS/MAG moderator. Please note that all participants will be muted for the duration of the event.
