Tours of David Culp’s Garden through the Six Seasons
                                                                                   in Downingtown, PA

Season – Summer (July/August)

July is a time of sunny days and vivid colors. Lilies, rudbeckias, and daylilies are in their glory. Scattered throughout the garden, they reflect the mantra of ‘repetition, repetition, repetition.’ Gray also abounds and makes a perfect foil to all the yellows. The vegetable garden is located centrally at Brandywine Cottage and is the heart of the garden. Abundant bounty here speaks to our agrarian roots. By August, a gardener’s skills are challenged by the excessive heat. But the dahlias are in their glory and the Phlox paniculata give a great color boost. [Photo by Rob Cardillo]

Season – Summer (July/August):

Tuesday, July 2 (Rain Date July 3); 10 AM – 12 Noon

Your Tour Guide – David Culp:

David Culp, a founding member of the Hardy Plant Society/Mid-Atlantic Group, has spent more than 30 years creating a sensational year-round garden that provides an abundance of joy. If you have read his book, you know that his garden is more than, well, a garden. It is about making our place in the natural world and enjoying the changing of the seasons. As he points out, we do not live in a static world, and gardens are not a static art form. Through this series, David will guide us to see more clearly the subtle seasonal transitions. By looking closer, we can learn how to create beauty and build a habitat for ourselves in the garden.
