Join us for a virtual time travel adventure to experience the Chelsea Flower Show and seven of the UK’s most iconic gardens. In May 2024, three members of HPS/MAG visited seven gardens and the Chelsea Flower Show in eight very busy days. This talk will highlight photos, impressions, and gardening ‘ah-hah!’ moments from Kew, Wisley, West Dean, Great Dixter, Sissinghurst, Gravetye Manor, Chelsea Physic Garden, and, of course, the Chelsea Flower Show.

The Chelsea Flower Show is the flower show of shows, and the genesis of the tips and trends we’ll see here, across the pond, in the years to come. But Chelsea isn’t the only source for cutting edge trends in gardening; British gardeners present innovative plants, styles and designs every year and the culture of gardening within the Isles encourages bold experimentation. From large public gardens to individual plots, the British gardener plants for excitement.

Speaker Bio: Janet Chrzan is a nutritional anthropologist at the University of Pennsylvania, where she explores the connections between social activities, diet, and health outcomes. Before she became focused on nutrition, she was an ethnobotanist fascinated by plants, and she remains passionate about gardening and curious about how our biotic landscapes affect the health of individuals and societies. She lives in Media Pennsylvania, where she tends a large vegetable garden and develops recipes for zucchini.

This Zoom program is free to all HPS/MAG Members. $15 for Non-members. Registration is required. This event will be recorded and will be available for registrants to watch for just 2 weeks following the lecture.
